The Reality of Hiking with Toddlers

Sometimes words are just not adequate. Wait for it...wait for it...

We've all been there. Hiking with toddlers is not all rosy bliss. Meltdowns happen, but don't let it stop you from getting out there!

As parents, very day brings us another "what if..." moment. Think of it as an opportunity to teach, to bond, to exhibit a little patience.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the craziness of it all that we forget to slow down, relax and just simply enjoy the little moments. "What if she sits down on the trail and doesn't want to budge?" Sit down with her and just be...together.

  1. I love it! You just made my afternoon. And it's refreshing to know that my toddler isn't the only one who has meltdowns on the trails!

  2. Oh yes. I have definitely been there. My girls are 8 and 6 and they have learned to enjoy hiking but you have to let them do it at their own pace.

    1. Yeah, when you have kids, you definitely have to let go of the idea that hiking is a high-aerobic activity unless they're still young enough to carry!

  3. I have two toddlers, 3 years old and 1 year old we go hiking all the time with them. Meltdowns occur almost every time. Next time I will video mine as well and we can share them haha. Happy hiking!
